PURPOSE
Rotary Charities awards grants that promote innovative, grass-roots approaches to community issues. Awards range from $5,000 to $99,000.

Rotary Charities seeks to:
  1. Encourage new approaches that better serve citizens
  2. Encourage efficiency and effectiveness
  3. Encourage sharing of resources and leveraging of assets through collaboration
 CRITERIA FOR FUNDING

Programs that receive funding from Rotary Charities must meet the following criteria:

  • Be based on community need
  •  Have measurable outcomes

  •  Demonstrate high impact

  •  Be an innovative program* that meets the criteria listed above

  • Preference will be given to proposals that are collaborative.

*Acknowledging the current economic conditions faced by many quality programs, the Board of Rotary Charities (in July 2009) temporarily modified the criteria and will accept applications for support of on-going successful programs.  Nonprofit organizations with a proven track record of meeting community needs may apply for a single year program grant during the spring 2010 cycle.  The deadline for the fall cycle this year is March 1, 2010.  This policy will be reviewed prior to each grant cycle, so please contact Rotary Charities staff before applying.

GUIDELINES FOR PROGRAM GRANTS
  1. Rotary Charities’ primary focus will be on funding new initiatives or the expansion of programs and services. However, the criteria have been temporarily modified to include funding to support continuation of successful existing programs.
  2. Funding for startup expenses, including staffing and operating expenses, will be considered.
  3. Funding will be for a one year period. Funded programs may be invited to submit a proposal for up to two additional years if: benchmarks from the previous year are achieved and the amount requested from Rotary Charities declines each year according to the prescribed formula.
  4. Rotary Charities generally does not provide funding for the total program cost, preferring to partner with other funders whenever possible.
  5. The next deadline for Program grant requests is September 1, 2010. Only electronically submitted proposals will be accepted; hard-copy versions of the proposal are no longer required.  Forms can be accessed at: http://rotarycharities.egrant.net
  6. If funding is awarded, Rotary Charities staff will meet with the organization to develop a Grant Agreement Letter, which will include mutually agreeable measurable outcomes, time frames and a reporting schedule.
